Fact: babies move. This is a simple truth which is very important to consider. Babies move even before they are born. In fact, research has shown that the baby’s activity inside the womb has a direct correlation to the baby’s health and intelligence potential.
Anyone who has taken the time to observe babies can easily see that babies are very mobile creatures. This is true when these little angels sleep. They occupy every available space. Whether they sleep in a cradle, bassinet or a futon, babies will find all available space and make it their own. Some babies will use up and explore all the space then can find. They will roll over, nuzzle and cuddle all over the bedding or the cradle. They will nudge themselves into the cradle slats or pillows, or any impediment to their mobility. This is actually a throwback to the time the baby was inside the womb. It just gets carried over.
It does help to limit their movement, but it is also a better idea to line the walls of the crib or cradle with cradle bumpers. This will allow the baby to move around and not get hurt while doing so. Wood or plastic may be softer than bone, but there is always the possibility that she might get hurt and cry herself awake. It is better to be safe than sorry just so to keep this little angel peaceful in her sleep.
